Everyone has had either a good or bad experience with crowds. In the midst of others, we sometimes feel a surge of enthusiasm, while at other times, we are jostled in every direction. From these interactions emerge numerous collective phenomena, which are analyzed in the Crowds exhibition.
How are dense crowds at large gatherings studied? What hidden rules do we unknowingly follow when surrounded by others? How do major waves of opinion take shape and spread across social media?
Often criticized, crowds have long been perceived in the collective imagination as something strange or even unsettling. Drawing on the latest principles of interdisciplinary research, Crowds seeks to deconstruct the negative image that has been associated with them for far too long.
